Is it safe to travel to Iran right now?

This question is on the minds of many, and the answer varies depending on who you ask. So, I thought I’d share some thoughts to help provide clarity.   The influence of news and social media on our perceptions is undeniable. We’re bombarded with information online, much of it driven by various agendas. As an old Persian saying goes, "No cat catches a mouse for the sake of God," meaning everyone has their reasons for what they say or do.   But what does it mean to be "safe"?   If you’re concerned about personal safety from theft, robbery, or assault by ordinary Iranians, know that these incidents are extremely rare. There are far more dangerous places around the world where people travel in droves.   If your concern is the possibility of war breaking out while you’re in Iran, consider this: Iran endured an eight-year war with Iraq, and since then, only occasional skirmishes along the borders have been reported. The likelihood of an all-...

Trekking in Iran

Trekking in Iran   Iran may not be the first country that comes to mind when you think of trekking destinations, but it boasts vast mountainous regions with exceptional trekking opportunities. With 52% of its surface area covered in mountains, Iran ranks as one of the most mountainous countries in the world. Two major mountain ranges dominate the landscape: the Alborz, stretching from the northwest to the northeast along the Caspian Sea, the largest lake in the world, and the formidable Zagros range, extending from the northwest to the southeast. The Alborz range is also home to Mount Damavand, the highest volcano in Asia and the tallest peak in Iran and the entire Middle East.   Both mountain ranges offer excellent opportunities for hiking, mountaineering, skiing, canyoning, mountain biking, climbing, ski mountaineering, paragliding, and wildlife watching. Culturally, the Alborz and Zagros ranges are inhabited by nomadic and semi-nomadic communities who use the...

Zarrin Desert Yazd

You are in for a nice surprise. An incredible trek in one of the least explored deserts of Iran. Its remoteness has meant that it has stayed pristine and four wheel drivers have not yet got to it. Few, if any people have walked the entire L shaped dunes separated by playas and beautiful dried salt lakes. It is some 50 aerial kilometres and probably over 70 ground kilometres. The altitude of the dunes is between 800 to 1100 meters above sea level. The best time to do it would be from mid October until late March.  It is now on offer. Write to info@caspiantrek.com or send a message to +989371501993 to talk directly to Farzin Malaki the guide.  The tourists can come back,  The Iranian government opened the borders to foreign tourism a couple of months ago but you need to be fully vaccinated again Covid 19 and show an update PCR Good place to visit,  Iran ! Welcome back.

COVID-19 PCR Tests, Iran Tourism

June 2021, the Iranian Government is still not allowing tourists into the country. A campaign was recently set up to sign a petition asking the Government to allow tourists back in , now that mass vaccination is under way in many of the countries whose citizens have traditionally been interested in Iran as a holiday destination. In God we trust! Flingers crossed ! In-Sha-- Allah !!

Archaeology, anthropology of Ganj Darre in the Zagros Mountains of Iran

If you are planning to visit Iran one of the areas you must see is the Zagros Mountains . While trekking remote valleys and settlements you will come across nomads from pre-historic era. This article in Nature will shine light on the authenticity of the area. All of the treks I guide and organize are in remote pristine areas of the Zagros well away from the touristy zones. You will need to be physically and mentally fit and prepared to trek for several days on difficult terrain carrying your heavy backpack. The reward is out of this world. https://www.nature.com/articles/srep31326

Damavand ...

Iran and its 5 volcanic summits

There are 5 volcanic summits in Iran; Bazman, Damavand , Sabalan , Sahand and Taftan. All have trekking routes and I can organize or guide expeditions to all of them. They are all stratovolcano, all are dormant or extinct. 1. Bazman lies in the south-eastern part of Iran, in the province of Sistan and Baluchestan some . It is some 3490m high and is located 40 KM NW of the Bazman town, the nearest large city is Iranshahr to the south. The summit has a 500m wide crater which is 150 m deep. It is by far the least accessible mountain point of Iran. It receives heavy snowfall in winter. The area is inhabited by Baluchi nomads who live in their black tents, the area is very dry, a factor to bear in mind when trekking in this region outside the winter months. The best time to trek this summit is in Spring. For all unknown treks in Iran please visit my website   2. Damavand. For trekking to the highest point of Iranian plateau and the highest summit in Asia se...

Alam, Alam Kooh, Alam Kuh

Whatever the spelling, this summit is one of the most beautiful in Iran. Alam which means pennon is shaped like one. Kooh means mountain in Farsi. Alam Kooh or Alam Kuh at 4850 m ASL is the second highest summit in Iran. The distance of the summit point to the Caspian Sea which sits at 27 m below sea level is a mere 25 KM. This area of the Iran therefore has one of the biggest altitude differences in the world. The Alam Massif covers an area in the Alborz Mountains which is a paradise for trekking, climbing, ski-mountaineering and paragliding. Alam Kooh is traditionally and most commonly trekked via Hesarchal plateau . To get to Hesarchal you need to get to Kelardasht first. Kelardasht is a large (approximately 1500sq km) plateau that houses many villages. The distance to the beginning of the plateau from the Caspian Sea is some 50 KM and from Tehran it is 170 KM. A good tarmac road links the Caspian littoral and the Capital to the area. This area of outstanding natural beauty...
