Iran and its 5 volcanic summits

There are 5 volcanic summits in Iran; Bazman, Damavand , Sabalan , Sahand and Taftan. All have trekking routes and I can organize or guide expeditions to all of them. They are all stratovolcano, all are dormant or extinct. 1. Bazman lies in the south-eastern part of Iran, in the province of Sistan and Baluchestan some . It is some 3490m high and is located 40 KM NW of the Bazman town, the nearest large city is Iranshahr to the south. The summit has a 500m wide crater which is 150 m deep. It is by far the least accessible mountain point of Iran. It receives heavy snowfall in winter. The area is inhabited by Baluchi nomads who live in their black tents, the area is very dry, a factor to bear in mind when trekking in this region outside the winter months. The best time to trek this summit is in Spring. For all unknown treks in Iran please visit my website   2. Damavand. For trekking to the highest point of Iranian plateau and the highest summit in Asia see ww

Alam, Alam Kooh, Alam Kuh

Whatever the spelling, this summit is one of the most beautiful in Iran. Alam which means pennon is shaped like one. Kooh means mountain in Farsi. Alam Kooh or Alam Kuh at 4850 m ASL is the second highest summit in Iran. The distance of the summit point to the Caspian Sea which sits at 27 m below sea level is a mere 25 KM. This area of the Iran therefore has one of the biggest altitude differences in the world. The Alam Massif covers an area in the Alborz Mountains which is a paradise for trekking, climbing, ski-mountaineering and paragliding. Alam Kooh is traditionally and most commonly trekked via Hesarchal plateau . To get to Hesarchal you need to get to Kelardasht first. Kelardasht is a large (approximately 1500sq km) plateau that houses many villages. The distance to the beginning of the plateau from the Caspian Sea is some 50 KM and from Tehran it is 170 KM. A good tarmac road links the Caspian littoral and the Capital to the area. This area of outstanding natural beauty
